A short-list of 5 creators can be put together by hand. A pipeline of 200 can't. Stage 2 is the shift from 'found by chance' to systematic search. But the line between 'systematic' and 'spammy' is thin, and you must not cross it.
Where to search inside Instagram
Niche hashtags (#kurtihaul, #delhifashion, #budgetbeauty) — the most direct route to creators already posting in the topic. Geo-tags of metros and Tier II cities. The 'Similar accounts' section of an already-good creator — Instagram shows you adjacent ones itself. The Reels tab by niche — there you see who actually films, not just who's listed.
Saved presets
Don't search from scratch every time. Build 3–5 search presets: 'fashion nano Mumbai', 'beauty micro Tier II', and so on — a fixed set of hashtags + geo + follower range. This turns search from 'an hour of scrolling' into '10 minutes down a list'.
Look-alike logic
Found a creator who activated with you and earns well? Look for similar ones: same niche, same size, same delivery. One activated creator is a template for finding the next ten.
Where the red line runs
Ethical: manual search, saved presets, look-alike, viewing public profiles. Unethical and against platform rules: scraper bots that scrape thousands of profiles; auto-DM software that mass-sends templates; buying 'influencer databases'. Instagram bans accounts for this — yours and the ones you touched. A scout works with hands and head, not grey software.
Why manual search isn't 'slow'
A bot finds 1,000 profiles, of which 980 are irrelevant (Lesson 8). A scout with presets finds 50, of which 35 pass the 8 signals. The scout ends up with more activations, not more 'contacts'. The quality of the input decides everything.
